ChatGPT vs Claude for enterprise: 2026 comparison
ChatGPT and Claude are among the most widely deployed generative AI assistants in the enterprise, and the question comes up in every leadership committee: which one to choose? The honest answer does not fit into a single absolute winner. Both assistants have converged on the essentials — contractual confidentiality, centralised administration, reasoning quality — and diverge on precise points that matter depending on your use cases.

This comparison examines the criteria that genuinely decide in the enterprise: data security and privacy, administration and deployment, pricing, the API, and the special case of Moroccan companies subject to Law 09-08.
ChatGPT vs Claude: what are the differences for a business?
On paper, the two offerings look alike: a conversational assistant, latest-generation models, Team/Business and Enterprise plans, an API. The differences lie in the use cases. ChatGPT stands out through its versatility: image generation, integrated web search, custom GPTs, an agent mode able to carry out tasks, and a natural integration with the Microsoft ecosystem via Azure. It is often the tool that maximises spontaneous adoption, because most staff already know it personally.
Claude sets itself apart on in-depth work: long-document analysis thanks to an extended context window, editorial rigour, consistent quality on code — Claude Code is widely adopted by engineering teams — and the open MCP protocol to connect the assistant to your internal systems. Claude's Projects structure teamwork around shared document corpora.
In practice, the question is therefore not “which one is best?” but “which one is best for which workstation?”. Generalist support functions often lean towards ChatGPT, while document-heavy and technical roles lean towards Claude.
Data security and privacy: who protects what?
This is the make-or-break criterion, and the good news is that both vendors have aligned their guarantees on the professional plans. Both OpenAI and Anthropic contractually commit not to train their models on the data from the Business, Team and Enterprise plans. Exchanges are encrypted in transit and at rest, SOC 2 Type II certifications are in place on both sides, and each publishes a trust portal documenting its controls.
The differences are finer. ChatGPT Enterprise offers data-residency options in certain regions and retention periods configurable by the administrator. Claude Enterprise offers detailed audit logs, role-based access controls and a configurable retention policy as well. In both cases the administrator can restrict connectors and third-party integrations — a point often overlooked even though it is the main leakage surface.
Our reading: as things stand, neither one disqualifies the other on security. The real difference plays out in your governance — usage policy, classification of permitted data, oversight of connectors — more than in the choice of vendor.
Administration, SSO and deployment: what do the consoles offer?
Both Enterprise plans cover the fundamentals an IT department expects: SSO via SAML or OIDC, automatic account provisioning through SCIM, an admin console with role management, usage dashboards and control over which features are enabled. Parity is real on this foundation, and the gaps close every quarter.
ChatGPT Enterprise stands out through the management of internal GPTs — the IT department can publish approved custom assistants and block the rest — and through adoption analytics, useful for steering a large-scale roll-out. Claude Enterprise highlights the governance of shared Projects, fine-grained management of MCP connectors and precise control over what each role can do with imported data.
On deployment, our field feedback converges: the difficulty is almost never technical. Allow two to four weeks for a clean deployment — SSO, usage policy, training the first users — whichever vendor you choose. The typical failure comes from a deployment without support, not from the platform.
How much do ChatGPT and Claude cost in the enterprise?
The public price lists stop at the mid-tier plans: ChatGPT Business and Claude Team both sit at around 25 to 30 dollars per user per month depending on the commitment, according to the official July 2026 pricing pages. The Enterprise plans, for their part, are quote-based on both sides: the market reports orders of magnitude of several tens of dollars per seat per month, decreasing with volume and length of commitment, with a seat minimum at Anthropic.
At an equivalent scope, the price gap between the two vendors is rarely the deciding factor: it is generally smaller than the variation you will obtain by negotiating volume and duration. The real budget lever lies elsewhere: sizing the right mix between full licences for intensive users, a mid-tier plan for occasional use, and the API for automated processing.

OpenAI API or Claude API: which platform for your development?
On the developer side, both platforms are mature: official SDKs, tool calls, structured outputs, reduced-price batch processing and prompt caching to cut the bill on repeated contexts. Pay-as-you-go prices appear on the public price lists: on the order of 1 to 5 dollars per million input tokens for the flagship models, and 10 to 25 dollars for output, depending on the model and the vendor — the lightweight variants divide those amounts by five to ten.
The structural differences: the OpenAI API is also served via Microsoft Azure, which simplifies contracting for organisations already committed to Microsoft; the Anthropic API is available via AWS Bedrock and Google Vertex AI, an asset for data residency and existing cloud agreements. Anthropic promotes MCP, an open protocol now widely adopted to connect models and enterprise systems; OpenAI offers a very complete ecosystem of integrated agents and tools.

ChatGPT or Claude for Moroccan companies?
For a Moroccan company, three questions are added to the comparison. The first is Law 09-08 on the protection of personal data: neither OpenAI nor Anthropic host in Morocco, so any transfer of personal data to their services must be part of your CNDP formalities — declaration of processing and framing of the cross-border transfer. On this point, the two vendors are on an equal footing: compliance is built on the client side, through usage governance and minimising the data sent.
The second is hosting. Both offerings are served from North American and European clouds; for sensitive data or bodies subject to the DGSSI's requirements, a hybrid architecture — a cloud assistant for office work, a private on-premise AI for critical data — is often the pragmatic answer.
The third is French-language support: both assistants are excellent in French, and the interfaces are localised. For close support — deployment, training, governance, the Darija dialect in customer use cases — it is the local partner that makes the difference, not the vendor. When to choose ChatGPT or Claude?
Choose ChatGPT if:
- Your teams want a generalist assistant: writing, images, web search, spreadsheets
- Your IT is anchored at Microsoft and you are aiming for contracting via Azure
- You want to deploy internal GPTs approved by the IT department at scale
- Spontaneous adoption matters: most staff already know the tool personally
Choose Claude if:
- Your use cases revolve around long documents: contracts, reports, regulatory files
- Your engineering teams want a first-class code assistant (Claude Code)
- You want to connect the assistant to your internal systems via the open MCP protocol

There is no absolute winner, and be wary of anyone who names one for you. Choose ChatGPT if your priority is a versatile assistant with a high adoption rate, integrated into a Microsoft IT estate. Choose Claude if your use cases are document-heavy and technical: long context, code, connection to internal systems via MCP. And seriously consider the mixed scenario — both vendors allow it with no major contractual friction: ChatGPT for augmented office work, Claude for engineering and analysis. This is the pattern we deploy most often. The right choice depends on your map of use cases: that is where you should start, not with the product sheet.
