SAP MCP: work in SAP from your AI assistant

Hunter BI develops SAP MCP integrations in Morocco. Define the SAP interfaces, access rights and acceptance tests for work from your AI assistant.

In brief

A SAP MCP integration connects a compatible AI assistant to defined operations in your SAP environment. Hunter BI has completed this type of project so the client can work from their assistant, with qualitative productivity improvement. No quantified result is published. The scope depends on the SAP product, available interfaces and access rights; it must be validated for each installation.

An employee may want to ask a business question in an assistant instead of assembling the answer manually across several screens. The objective is not to replace SAP, but to build a useful path between the person, the permitted operations and the information your organisation treats as authoritative.

This page separates Hunter BI’s completed integration experience, the interfaces to investigate and scenarios proposed for a new project. It is intended for IT leaders, process owners and integration teams who want to define what an assistant will actually be allowed to do before granting access.

01

A completed integration and a qualitative benefit

Hunter BI has completed a SAP MCP integration. The reported benefit is that the client performs work from an AI assistant and experiences improved productivity. No before-and-after percentage, time saving or financial return is published. This feedback is not an independently measured result or a guarantee for another organisation.

The customer's versions, commands and data are not disclosed here. Your project must therefore start with its own task: what result is required, who checks it and which SAP information is authoritative? A working connection must still demonstrate that it answers that specific business need correctly.

02

Identify the SAP product before choosing a connector

The name SAP is not enough to define an architecture. Specify the product, such as S/4HANA or ECC, the modules, version, hosting and interfaces available to the team. A read-only enquiry has a different scope from an operation that changes a business document.

Where several applications participate in the process, identify the system of record and the identifiers used to match information. An assistant combining SAP and CRM data needs an agreed freshness requirement and a way to handle conflicts. An uncertain match must be reported, not turned into a definitive answer simply because the model can phrase one fluently.

03

Assess vendor capabilities and the remaining development

Check the SAP services and integration capabilities available under your actual subscription and configuration before deciding that a new server is necessary. The existence of a vendor solution does not establish that it is enabled, licensed or suitable for every SAP installation.

Our approach is to document what the environment already supports and then identify uncovered requirements. Custom work should address a defined gap: a business operation, an additional connection or an organisation-specific control. Vendor documentation is a technical reference, while compatibility is established by testing the selected setup. Do not treat an example configuration as a production-ready connector.

04

Choose a first workflow with a known expected result

One proposed scenario is an order-status summary. The workflow must identify the correct document, retrieve authorised information, retain the references used and disclose missing data. This is an example to assess, not a claim about the commands delivered in the customer project mentioned above.

Prepare cases for a found document, an ambiguous reference, stale information and a user without permission. Write the expected outcome before the pilot. If the available information is insufficient, the assistant must ask a question or explain the limitation. Filling a gap by assumption would change the meaning of the process rather than improve it.

05

Separate enquiry, preparation and write access

An assistant that can propose a change should not automatically receive permission to execute it. For a write, identify the target, intended content, approving person and accepted business consequences. Review the approval again if the record has changed since the action was prepared.

After execution, read the recorded result. An uncertain response is not permission to repeat the operation immediately and risk a duplicate. Map the tool results and conversation context sent to the model provider, and minimise retained logs. A server inside the company network does not, by itself, make the whole processing chain internal.

06

Measure productivity and prepare operations

Compare equivalent tasks before and after integration. Include time spent searching, checking and correcting, not only the assistant's response speed. Track accepted outcomes, significant errors and expected access denials. Time released for other work is not automatically a realised financial saving.

The delivery package should describe supported operations, tested versions, permissions, acceptance results and the suspension procedure. Assign owners for incidents and updates. A change to SAP, the connector or the assistant triggers targeted regression tests before the workflow is declared available again. Maintenance responsibilities and response commitments belong in the agreed scope, not in assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Does an MCP server replace SAP?

No. It provides another way to perform a defined task from an assistant. SAP remains the business application; the available operations and the source-of-truth rules are agreed for your environment.

Do we need custom development if a vendor option exists?

Not necessarily. Assess its availability and suitability first. Custom development is justified by requirements that remain uncovered, not by the presence of the term MCP in a project description.

What productivity gain can you promise?

Hunter BI reports qualitative improvement on its completed SAP integration, without a published percentage. Your baseline, indicators and comparison period must be defined before the pilot; no universal gain is promised.

What should we prepare for a first discussion?

Provide the SAP product, version, intended assistant and a representative task. Identify the process owner and known access restrictions. Do not send credentials, API keys or confidential exports through the public form.
